Renters are neglecting their gardens

Owning your own home is a massive achievement so it’s no wonder that some people become very house proud; wanting their homes to be as close to perfection as possible. And this extends to the outdoor space too. If you’re lucky enough to have a garden as well as your own home, you’ll want it to be a contender for the Chelsea Flower Show.
However, we know that not everyone owns their own home as it isn’t a possibility for all people. Here in the UK, we have a high number of renters and according to the Royal Horticultural Society, the nation’s gardens are being increasingly neglected due to this.

A survey was conducted by the RHS which found that one in every three front gardens have zero plants in them. Furthermore, over the last decade, paving has increased three fold!
Renters seem not to want to take care of their gardens. This could be that they don’t have the time or funds to properly maintain a garden or maybe they don’t feel very invested in their gardens because they are only renting. Many renters move around a lot, not always by choice, which means any time or money invested in creating a beautiful garden would be wasted if they had to move.
It seems like it would be a good idea to replace natural lawns at rented properties with artificial ones so that gardens across the UK, would cease to appear neglected, without much work being done. Little bits and pieces such as planting a flower bed here and there doesn’t take much time and would drastically improve the look of the nation’s gardens. Artificial grass in London is already growing in popularity so it seems like a great idea to us!
